Being a Truth Representative

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

...that you too must turn away this day from following the LORD? And if you too rebel against the LORD today then tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel. Joshua 22:18

Observation

Reuben Gad and Manasseh - built a duplicate altar to the Lord. The leaders and people were fearful of the Lord’s judgement since possessing and being blessed to settle in the Promise land. Rebellion was one of the charges against the 2 1/2 tribes.

Phinehas high priest was sent along with 10 leaders - one head chief from each tribe.

Application

My application ===
It’s a lesson to me of good intentional leadership - investigating rebellion or potential rebellion and disobedience to the Lord Almighty. In fact, the hearts of the RGM tribes boldly defended their decisions and actions.

“The Mighty One, God, the LORD! The Mighty One, God, the LORD! He knows; and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith against the LORD, do not spare us today Joshua 22:22

They had a very strong conviction of who their God was. Long story short - They were found innocent of the charges brought against them.

I think of the NT command -

1Tim. 5:19 Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.

There is wisdom in counsel of the trustworthy who seeks and possess truth. But for me - the lesson is the ”Charge“ - We should not fear or shy away from bringing charges that violate Bible conviction and truth. It’s how we bring the charges that can determine poor, good to better to best outcomes in and for God.

What truth do I have? What is speculation? Is the accusation or charge violating Scripture or my conscience? My conscience can be rooted in truth... but I need to watch personal perspectives, convictions.

I need to be careful of my:

• Attitude.
• Approach.
• Be willing to Adjust and Accommodate when ”rebuking or bringing charges.“
• Watch the Words I use.
• Be filled with the Grace of the Lord.

I’m really moved to be a truth seeker, teller - most of all a Truth REP! representative

• I don’t want to put people on the defensive - but when people get defensive - stay on the course of truth.
• Be careful not to jump to conclusions.
• Keep my heart motives in check.
• Don’t go into charge with an outcome or an agenda... We formulate outcomes, set the path of discipline, judgement...

Prayer

Dear Spirit of God -

thanks for always being the God whom leads me, guides me, convicts me, teaches me Truth. You are the Spirit of Truth and may I hear and obey you with a clear and pure conscience. Help me to represent Your shepherds heart and ways - as You’ve called me to lead and guide Your people. I want to lead with Your heart!
