Scripture
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV) 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Observation
When we read the Bible, we learn wisdom from other peoples experiences. How is that? Beyond my experiences, I don’t have the time to go through what I CAN read about others going through them. So what the Bible teaches me is how I can learn from those that went before me.God knew that we would need wisdom beyond our own personal experiences, so He gave us the Bible. Because God knew that we would need wisdom beyond the ages. When the Bible says, “a great cloud of witnesses, I cannot tell you how many times it was doing my devotions that it would teach me to handle grumbling people like Moses did.How to face these GIANT OF PROBLEMS like David did,And how to lead and disciple like Jesus did.And how to just fall to the ground and worship God, LIKE JOB DID, when everything I have and everything I own is falling apart.Did you know that God will give us the wisdom of the ages, and it’s all waiting here in the Bible, from a great cloud of witnesses sharing their testimony with us.
Application
The only way I can ”Fix My Eyes On Jesus,“ is by reading and learning about Jesus. Throughout the Bible, God Word and His Truth feeds me everything I need to know about Jesus. As I read, ask the Holy Spirit to help me feel and see what Jesus saw. Help me to love as Jesus loved. And help me to think as Jesus thinks, then allow to be filled as Jesus was filled.
Prayer
Father I pray, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”(Romans 15:4) God I know that You will give me the wisdom of the ages, and it’s all waiting here in the Bible. Amen.
