Setting The Course

Calvin Kochi

Scripture

21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps 22“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 1 Peter 2:21-23

Observation

Christ led us and set an amazing example for us. Not only did He die for our sins, but also He has set an example of how we should respond in the mist of the trials and the struggles. When all of life seems to come crashing down on you how will you respond?

Application

Following in His steps are easier said than done. The steps that must be taken must come through the scrubbing of ones heart and the selfish motive that lay beneath the surface. I must be willing to rid myself of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Otherwise it can be so easy to want to retaliate and take things into my own hands. At times I feel like, yeah I want to repay evil for evil. Why do I always have to be the one to defer myself when there are problems? Yet Jesus did not retaliate, repay evil for evil, or even try to defend himself, and He entrusted Himself to the one who judges accurately

Prayer

Thank you for being my example to follow. I wasn’t easy for you, yet you were able to weather the storms. Thank you for setting the course that I can take. Help me to be able to respond better and not let my flesh get in the way.
