KEPT SAFE

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.” 1 Samuel 22:23

Observation

Abiathar the priest fled the scene, where 85 priests were murdered by Doeg, a foreigner Edomite. Doeg received the execution assignment from none other than King Saul. Out of his own rage, jealousy and pride, King Saul took his wrath out on 85 priests including the murder of women, children and livestock in the land. Abiathar escaped to inform David, who himself was hiding in a cave with 400 other embittered and distressed men.

David utters some pretty comforting, assuring words, ensuring Abiathar’s safety. What was it that David could speak with such confidence with an enraged, crazy King seeking to devour their lives?

Application

The more I meditate on this passage, the more I equate David as a type of Jesus. Not that Jesus is fleeing or afraid, but he is used of God as we know to redeem. To uphold righteousness, by being a servant and shepherd King (who he was anointed to become).

  • There are many I know, calling on me to do their loved ones funerals. Dying is not optional. It’s not a matter of if, but when. As a Christ believer and follower - I have NO FEARS! Eternally, I will be kept safe. The devil who seeks to devour, is defeated.

  • I do tell people “I’m not afraid to die! But I do get fearful of HOW I die!” :) But I’m reminded...I am SAFE in JESUS... no matter what because to DIE IS GAIN!
Prayer

Dear Daddy King!
Thank you for keeping me safe in and by Your Spirit! I not only am safe - You allow me to feel safe, and secure by Your Holy Spirit’s Presence! Thanks and I LOVE YOU!
